Security Officer Position Information

Starting Salary
Hiring Bonus: $4,000

Starting hourly: $23-$28 an hour

  • Night ($2.50/hr)

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age (21 for police officer)
  • Must have graduated from high school or received a GED
  • Good driving record and valid driver license
  • No felony or domestic violence convictions
  • No misdemeanor convictions within the past 5 years
  • No active warrants or domestic violence injunctions
  • Additional drug use restrictions
Hiring Process

UW Madison Police Department has developed a comprehensive hiring process to evaluate the knowledge, skills and abilities of prospective employees.  Each position is unique and has different steps to assess candidates. All positions apply through the UW Jobs website.  Job postings are generally open for approximately 4 weeks.  Candidates must submit a cover letter and resume with their application.

Security Officer: Prospective Security Officers will take part in a panel interview. Candidates can expect a 3 month hiring and background investigation process.

All candidates who successfully complete all steps for their respective position will receive a conditional offer of employment and move to the background investigation stage. If the background investigation is deemed acceptable, the candidate will be given a final offer.
